Volunteer Opportunities 

We are looking for volunteers to have fun with us in bringing Maker Faire to Red Deer.

Most roles are for only the day of the event, Saturday April 22, 2017, however we have some room on our organizing team if you want to be involved in pre-event activities.

Maker Volunteer Perks 

  • Exclusive Maker Faire Crew T-shirt.
  • Maker Happy Hour Event Pass – this is an exclusive event on the Friday evening before Maker Faire.
  • Volunteers that work an eight hour shift get Complimentary Lunch.
  • All Volunteers have access to Complimentary Snacks throughout the day.
  • Participate and connect with amazing Makers and play an important role in developing Maker Culture.

Volunteer Requirements  & Responsibilities 

  • Minimum of 4 hours event day.
  • Prepare for and preform your duties as a volunteer by attending or responding to communications, orientation, and training.
  • Consent and abide by the Maker Faire policies and procedures.
  • Be a positive ambassador for Red Deer Mini Maker Faire, Maker culture, and the greater Maker community.
  • Treat other volunteers, Makers, speakers, presenters, staff and the general public with respect.
  • Fulfill all tasks, duties and time commitments as agreed, to the best of your ability.
  • Refrain from use or possession of illegal substances on-site as well as the consumption of alcohol before or while on duty.
  • To create and foster an atmosphere of mutual fun, inclusiveness, innovation, creativity, respect and support.

Volunteer Roles Available

Gate Crew – Gate Crew is responsible for checking-in visitors. Saturday 9:30am to 1:30pm or 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Maker Check-In – Maker Check-In is responsible for greeting makers as they arrive, and letting them know where they need to go.

Maker Care Crew – Maker Care Crew is responsible for continuously checking in with each exhibit to see how things are going and to help makers out where possible.

Activities Crew – Activities Crew is responsible for facilitating and supporting hands-on activities, examples being cardboard fort building, learn-to-solder, etc.

Stage Manager – Stage Manager is responsible for keeping presentations and performances on schedule and working with presenters and performers to ensure they have what they need. Stages include Maker Education, Innovation, and Fashion Technology.

Documentarian Crew – Documentarian crew is responsible for capturing fun and interesting photo/video imagery from maker exhibits and great moments from the event. Post event editing is welcome but not expected.

Social Media Crew – If you are social media savvy let us know which platforms such as, twitter, facebook, and Instagram, you may be asked to be a Social Media Assistant to post on behalf of Red Deer Mini Maker Faire and/or on your own personal account throughout the event Friday 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and Saturday 9:30am to 5:00pm
